Aurora House provides a homelike environment that surrounds residents with warmth, understanding, and acceptance. It is a place to be together and a chance, once again, to simply be family, be friend, be loved one. Aurora is a small village of fewer than one thousand residents located in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. Originally inhabited by Native Americans of the Cayuga Nation, Aurora became a home for some veterans of the American Revolutionary War in the late 18th century. During the 19th century, several learning institutions were founded in the village. In fact, today, Aurora is very much a college town filled with students during the school year.

Law that ended single-family zoning is struck down for five Southern California cities

The Villa Aurora Forum in Berlin organizes the meetings of the selection committees which choose the fellows of Villa Aurora. The Forum also presents the results of the artists' works to the German public through exhibitions, screenings, readings, concerts and the publishing of editions. At the annual 'Villa Aurora Nacht' in Berlin, the newly chosen fellows are presented along with the work of the ones from the previous year. Today, Villa Aurora is an artists residence offering fellowships for German-based writers, visual artists, composers and filmmakers selected by independent committees. Together with the USC Feuchtwanger Memorial Library, the organization awards an annual Feuchtwanger Fellowship to artists who are persecuted in their home countries in memory of the history of German emigration in the 1930s.
Some Californians saw a rare display of the northern lights. Here’s why it happened
The progress of the new house was reported in the Times on a weekly basis. When someone comes to Aurora House for end of life care, we focus not only on medical and physical needs they have, but also on who they were throughout their life and who they are now. Each of our residents has worth and deserves to “matter”, especially in this final stage of their life. We ask you to join us in acknowledging their community, their elders both past and present, as well as future generations. DESC also acknowledges that many indigenous peoples from near and far were dislocated from their lands and cultural practices, resulting in many hardships including homelessness. We honor all Coast Salish and other indigenous peoples and commit to learning and identifying DESC’s role in undoing harm.

First, reach out to our referral team and complete the online referral form. From there, we will help you coordinate next steps, including scheduling an appointment at a location near you. Villa Aurora is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media. Sponsors and private donations further help to maintain the historic property. The Villa stands as a reminder of German exile in the United States and is a memorial to German-Exile-Culture and the persecution of the German Jews. Villa Aurora is a place for cultural encounters, creative debates and joint projects.
NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center was still warning of an ongoing moderate geomagnetic storm Monday but said the storm was winding down, with the northern lights probably only visible from parts of Canada and Alaska by Monday evening. Northern Californians were able to see the aurora borealis, or northern lights, Thursday due to a severe geomagnetic spacial storm, scientists said. Sometimes people are at home with family, in a hospital setting, or in a Nursing Home. There are many factors that are considered when a referral is received; Aurora Staff weigh all of these factors carefully before offering a bed to a prospective resident.

At present, the Villa is still home to 22,000 books, with the most valuable copies having been moved to the USC Feuchtwanger Memorial Library. We strive to support both our residents and their families as they walk through a very difficult time. Sometimes this means simply sitting with a resident, offering a caring presence in the room; sometimes it means playing a board game with younger family members to help them pass the time.

It happened on the 1800 block of South Truckee Way, which is in the Aurora Highlands neighborhood. For just $28 a day, we are able to serve the women who stay with us and their children. The Feuchtwanger House was landmarked as one of the Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monuments and also by the Pacific Palisades Historical Society.
Abortion has roiled down-ballot races across the country, and Pennsylvania is no exception. Reproductive rights have been a major topic in the attorney general’s race and in the Republican primary for the 1st Congressional District. At the state level, Democrats are hoping to hold on to their majority in the state House and take control of the state Senate. Republicans currently hold a majority in the Senate, and Democrats are hoping to flip at least three seats to make it 25-25, giving them the majority via a tie-breaking vote from Democratic Lieutenant Gov. Austin Davis.

The entire house was lifted to build a solid foundation, the hill stabilized by cement pillars, an AC system was added, the heating system and pipes replaced and the whole house was rewired. After the various renovations had been accomplished, the Villa Aurora was placed on the list of Historical Landmarks in Los Angeles. Dimster had experience with old houses but Villa Aurora, having had very view repairs over the decades, was a challenge even for him. When the Feuchtwangers moved into the Villa the house was so run-down, that – according to Marta’s oral history – they spent their first nights in the garden in sleeping bags.
Non-white Hispanics constitute about 11% of the village's residents, while African Americans make up 3.78%. More than 83% of people in Aurora speak only English, and 11.4% speak Spanish. Over 94% of the village's inhabitants were US-born, while almost 54% were born in Aurora. Most of the foreign-born population (around 72.2%) is from Latin America.
Over 15 meetings per week are located just minutes from The Aurora House. In addition to the close proximity to meetings, a big book study group and women's' meeting is brought into the house each week. The freedom to begin again is one of the most simple and profound experiences of early recovery.
Currently, Democrats have a 9-8 advantage — meaning one general election race in November could make all the difference. The primary results in this pivotal swing state are certain to reveal insights about the major issues shaping the general election, namely on abortion and the Israel-Hamas war. Two other notable attractions in and near Aurora are the Long Point State Park and MacKenzie Childs. The former serves as a local destination for swimming, picnicking, fishing, and hunting.
When my father began his horticultural studies at UCLA, he started his student life here at Villa Aurora. After Lion Feuchtwanger’s death in 1958, Marta became the caretaker of his estate. In 1959, she bequeathed the house and Lion’s library to the University of Southern California (the 8,000 most valuable books are still housed at the USC’s Feuchtwanger Memorial Library). Parcels 4 and 5 were left as “flex parcels,” which the developer could build as traditional single-family homes, such as in Lincoln Crossing, or age-restricted homes, such as in Del Webb.
Since 1995 around 300 artists have enlivened this place and have themselves been inspired by U.S. culture and the exiles' traces. They are the point of contact for any and all Hospice services, including admission to a Comfort Care Home. They know who might be appropriate for a referral and can help guide you through the process. The agency continues to oversee the Hospice Plan of Care along with a person’s physician once a person has come to Aurora; while the Comfort Care Home provides the hands on care and support, we are not responsible for medical decisions. Aurora House collaborates with your Hospice agency and your physician to provide excellent end of life care. Villa Aurora was designed by California-based architect Mark Daniels, who famously created the master plan for Bel Air.
